What value is a fridge if it’s full of food that’s unhealthy, without nourishment?
Nothing!
Our fridges can represent our emotional states. Are we filled with unhealthy, toxic, damaging relationships? Are our connections giving us nourishment and sustaining us, or are they really just delicious looking on the outside but filled with mould, decay and unhealthiness in every mouthful?
Lockdown is a time for isolation, but it’s also a time for connection. It’s a time to reconnect with yourself.
How many people run from themselves day in and day out? Most of us do, most of the time. But now, we’re having to face ourselves full-on. Naked, in front of the mirror, no disguises, diversions or delaying tactics.
It’s terrifying! It’s enough to drive you mad, without even being able to leave the house, to invite friends over, to fill the time with activities or things.
What am I seeing, what am I facing? The first thought to come to mind is a fridge. Ironic since comfort eating is the highest priority at this time.
But why a fridge? Most times, a full fridge symbolises plenty, success, enough – ultimately that we’re ok. We fill it with goodies that are delicious and satisfy our most basic primal need – food.
In lockdown, our fridges are doing this more than ever. That’s if we’re lucky enough to have the funds to keep them filled, and the comfort supply chain loaded.
What’s in your fridge? Is it healthy and nourishing, or does it need a check?
Food for thought, perhaps?
